Unit 1: Networking (15)
• Mobile technologies: SMS, MMS, 3G, 4G.
5: Mobile technologies
SMS: SMS Stands for "Short Message Service." SMS is used to send text messages to
mobile phones. The messages can typically be up to 160 characters in length, though
some services use 5-bit mode, which supports 224 characters.
MMS: MMS Stands for "Multimedia Messaging Service." MMS is mobile phone
service that allows users to send multimedia messages to each other. This includes
images, videos, and sound files. MMS is an extension of SMS, which is used to send
and receive text messages.
3G: Third Generation (3G) of wireless mobile telecommunication technology. It is the
upgrade for 2G and 2.5G GPRS networks, for faster internet speed. 3G
telecommunication networks support services that provide an information transfer rate
of at least 0.2Mbit/s.
4G: Fourth Generation (4G) is an abbreviation for the fourth generation of cellular
wireless standards and replace the third generation of broadband mobile
communication. Standard 4G (or 4G LTE) is around 5-7 times faster than 3G, offering
theoretical speeds of up to around 150 mbps.
